The Mastercard Foundation and the University of Cape Town (UCT) have teamed to create the Worldwide Scholars Program, an educational project that gives academically gifted youth from underserved communities in Africa access to high-quality university education.

Young Africans who are first-time applicants for undergraduate or postgraduate (honors and master’s) degrees are given full-cost scholarships under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UCT. The scholarships guarantee a top-notch education that will result in graduates with internationally recognized and locally relevant credentials, and whose entry into the workforce is supported by ideals of active citizenship and social justice.

These scholarships provide funding for the whole course of study and are renewed each year with excellent performance and participation in the program’s activities and opportunities. Candidates who are chosen must promise to go back to their home nations and use the knowledge and training they have acquired to advance the social and economic development of those nations.

The Mastercard Foundation strives for a society in which everyone is given the chance to grow and develop. It is one of the biggest foundations in the world and mostly serves Africa. It was established by Mastercard International in 2006 and is run separately by a separate board of directors. APPLICATION PROCESS:

Candidates must first submit an application for academic study and placement at the University of Cape Town before submitting an application for The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
After submitting an application at UCT, candidates must visit the University of Cape Town website for The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and click the ‘APPLY’ button image, which will take them to the online scholarship application form.
Applicants must need a special email address and password to log in to SM Apply.
Candidates must pass the eligibility test for The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program in order to access the postgraduate application form for a scholarship from the organization.
To support the scholarship application, applicants must include the contact information of two (2) academics who taught or oversaw them during their secondary and/or tertiary studies.
To complete the application process, candidates must fully fill out the online scholarship application form.

The recommenders who have agreed to act as references must really offer the reference.
